U.S. ARMY 112TH TRANSPORTATION BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

SEMPER PRORSUS, motto of the 112th Transportation Battalion, is Latin for “Always Forward” and eminently appropriate for this Ohio Army National Guard (ARNG). Tasked with the provision of Army motor transportation to Department of Defense and civilian agencies, the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 112th Transportation Battalion was constituted in the Ohio Army National Guard on 1 September 2005 and was organized and Federally recognized on 1 September 2007 at North Canton, Ohio. Its location changed two weeks later on 15 September 2007 to Green, but on 25 June 2010 it reverted back to its North Canton station. As of September 2023, the 112th Transportation Battalion reamins

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 112th Transportation Battalion was originally approved for a predecessor unit on 7 November 1966 and was amended effective 1 September 2007 with an updated description and revised symbolism. Three wheels symbolize Transportation and refer to the Federal, State, and Commuity missions of a National Guard organization. Blue wheel rims reflect the cool, confident nature of Transporation soldiers carrying out their missions.

A white disc and red trefoil are an adaptation of a seed from a buckeye tree, symbolizing the unit’s home area of Ohio, the “Buckeye State.”  The red center represents war, where Transporation Soldiers are tested most and perform their best in their determnation to deliver their cargo to the appropriate destination at all costs. A white disc stands for the humility displayed by Transportation soldiers when performing their missions regardless of where and when they are called upon to do so.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
