U.S. ARMY 11TH SPECIAL FORCES GROUP (AIRBORNE) BERET FLASH AND/OR OVAL

11th Special Forces Group was activated in 1961 and allotted to the Army Reserve along with the12th Special Forces Group. The 11th was comprised of three Battalions, each consisting of a Headquarters detachment and three companies:, with 1st Detachment’s companies located in the Northeast (Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey), the 2nd’s in the mid-Atlantic region ( Virginia and Ohio), and 3rd's in the Southeast (North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida).
 
But with the lightning-fast victory over Saddam Hussein in the First Gulf War and the collapse of the Soviet Union, a large active-duty military was no longer viewed as a necessary, and in 1994 both the Groups were inactivated.
