U.S. ARMY 101ST PERSONNEL SERVICES BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 101st Personnel Services Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (AKA a unit crest or DUI) was approved on 23 June 1994. The dark blue used for the shield and the inscription of the unit motto “Service To Destiny,” along with the scarlet employed for the dragon, are the colors of personnel organizations (those are official branch colors of the Adjutant General Corps).

An upright swords signifies the total readiness of the unit. The dragon that is entwined around the sword is an allusion to the “baptism of fire” the unit’s predecessor experienced during the Vietnam War.

Dark blue and scarlet are the colors associated with personnel organizations. The upright sword symbolizes the total readiness of the unit; it is entwined by an oriental dragon commemorating the unit's "baptism of fire" in Vietnam. The Battalion had earned four Meritorious Unit Commendations at the time it received approval for the coat of arms on which this insignia is based; it was awarded another for its service in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 19 March 2003 to 1 November 2003.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
