Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

The clever design of the unit crest for the 10th Sustainment Brigade, with the bucking pack mule in the center, recalls the days when it supported the 10th Mountain Division and earned the nickname “Muleskinners.” An ax entwined with climbing rope over a mountain highlights the brigade’s commitment of always going to the top, a mantra reinforced with the motto of “Supporting the Climb.” A pair of crossed bayonets indicate readiness for combat and constant preparedness to deliver logistics support for the 10th Mountain Division; they're also are a nod to the design used in the unit’s CSIB (Combat Service Identification Badge).
Originally approved for the 10th Support Brigade on 23 November 2004, the insignia was redesignated for the10th Sustainment Brigade on 25 April 2006. It was subsequently redesignated for HQ and Special Troops Battalion, 10th Mountain Division Sustainment Brigade on 20 July 2015.
