USAF CAPTAIN FLIGHT CAP RANK INSIGNIA

Pin-on metal rank insignia is worn on the Flight Cap by all Officers and on some of the Berets authorized for designated Airmen.

United States Air Force Captains wear Full-size pin-on metal rank insignia on the left side (from their perspective) of the Flight Cap. Centered vertically and placed so that its closest edge is 1.5 inches from the front crease of the Flight Cap, the Captain insignia is oriented so that the long axes of the insignia’s two bars are vertical.  When not worn, Flight Caps may not be tucked under the epaulettes found on Officers’ uniforms, for example, nor can they be folded over and under a belt. Instead, the Cap is tucked under the belt on the wearer’s left side, between the belt’s first and second loops, ensuring it is not visible beneath the Service coat.

Miniature pin-on metal Captain rank insignia is reserved for wear on the Berets authorized for Pararescue Personnel and Combat Rescue Officers (CROs), Special Tactics Officers (STOs), and Weather Parachutists. Placed immediately below the bottom of and centered on the beret's flash device, the bottom of the rank insignia should be level with and immediately next to the black border trim of the beret. The Commandant of Professional Military Education decides whether or not to allow the wear of Berets during parades, inspections, and graduations.
