Often referred to as a “unit crest” or the initialism DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 654th Regional Support Group was approved on 14 January 2000. Its status as a Support unit is signified by its use of buff (gold) and scarlet, colors traditionally used by Support organizations. Aside from the pair of upright gold, upright swords that represent the unit’s dedication to mobilization readiness, much of the imagery on the insignia pays homage to the Group’s home in the state of Washington.
In its very center if a totem pole symbolizing the American Northwest and the rich Native American culture of the region. Surrounding the totem is dark blue, denoting Puget Sound and its extension into Tumwater, Washington, the location of the Group when the insignia was approved for wear. And the Group’s home is of course the subject of the Group motto, “Supporting The Northwest.”

An Army Reserve unit, the 654th Regional Support Group is assigned to the 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, which is a major subordinate Command of the 79th Theater Sustainment Command.
The Group comprises two subordinate units, the 382nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and the 385th Transportation Battalion. As of Winter 2024, it is headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
