U.S. ARMY 607TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Often called a “unit crest,” the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD), 607th Military Police Battalion was approved on 25 September 1972. Its palette consists primarily of green and yellow, branch colors of the Military Police Corps for a century (as of 20 April 2022), along with white (silver), typically used to denote purity of intention—an especially important attribute for those exercising authority and empowered to use force in carrying out the mission.

The key is the symbol of that authority and denotes a solution to the unknown, or the unlocking of a mystery. Its business end is double-warded, an allusion to the Battalion’s mission to provide both Provost Marshal and Military Police services, while the bow end (the end you hold) is a five-pointed star, a reference to the unit’s location in Texas (“Lone Star State”); the ball tips of the star recall the badges of “ole timey” lawmen of the Old West. “Integrity And Pride” is the Battalion motto.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."
