Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The
Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) worn today by members of the 526th Brigade Support Battalion, was originally approved for the 5th Transportation Battalion on 2 September 1969. It was redesignated for the 526th Support Battalion on 16 April 1994 with a revised description and symbolism.
The brick red and golden yellow tones used almost exclusively for the insignia are the official colors of the Transportation Corps, reflecting the unit’s allocation to that branch when the DUI was designed and approved. A red fleur-de-lis surmounted on a tower memorialize the Battalion’s battle honors (campaign credits) earned in Europe during World War II, reflected in the Battalion’s Meritorious Unit Commendation with the inscription “European Theater.”
A pile (a point-down triangle) obscured somewhat by the tower recalls the unit’s reactivation in 1968 in Vietnam, while the wings forming a “V” shape are an allusion to the battalion’s former mission of special aircraft maintenance and supply and its nickname of “Flying Fifth.” “Best By Performance” is the Battalion motto.
