U.S. ARMY 310TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

The 310th Military Police Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), approved for wear on 17 January 1952, is crafted almost entirely in yellow and green to signify the unit’s status as part of the Military Police Corps. A fleur-de-lis in the upper right of the insignia commemorates the unit’s World War II service in Northern France during World War II, while the pruning knife is for participation in the Rhineland campaign; the wavy partition symbolizes the Rhine River and denotes the unit’s service there. “Justice To All” is the Battalion motto.

Constituted under its current name in the Organized Reserves on 15 February 1922, the 310th Military Police Battalion has been redesignated just once in its entire service life, as the 510th Military Police Battalion from June 1940 until March 1947. It was under that name that the unit deployed to Europe during World War II and took part in the Northern France and Rhineland campaigns.

Designated as a Reserve unit since is inception, the Battalion has been ordered into active military service five times since it became the 310th Military Police Battalion back in 1947. Three of those call-ups were in support of the War on Terrorism, but the Battalion’s campaign participation credits resulting from those deployments is yet to be determined.

While attached to the HHC, 16th Military Police Brigade, its service between 22 September 2006 and 20 November 2007 was subsequently recognized with a Meritorious Unit Commendation. And in December 2013, the HHC, 310th Military Police Battalion was awarded another Meritorious Unit Commendation while assigned to the 42nd Military Police Battalion to assist in conducting detention operations at a facility in Parwan, Afghanistan as part of the transition of detainees from U.S. custody to the Afghan National Army forces.

Still allotted to the Army Reserve as of Spring 2023, the 310th Military Police Battalion is assigned to the 333rd Military Police Brigade, 200th Military Police Command. It is headquartered in Farmingdale, New York.
