U.S. ARMY 226TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also called a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 226th Military Police Battalion was approved for wear on 30 September 2015. Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."

Its shield portion is designed to resemble a police officer’s badge to make clear it represents a Military Police organization within a unit. The lower two-thirds of the shield is divided diagonally by a counterchanged, point-down sword, with the halves featuring backgrounds of green and gold—official Military Police Corps colors.

In the green section are the scales of justice, signifying equal treatment for all. In the gold half is an image of the Zia sun, an image closely associated with New Mexico where the unit serves as part of the New Mexico Army National Guard. The sword dividing the two areas is a symbol of strength and authority. The upper third of the shield portion of the insignia is called the chief. A pair of crossed, gold pistols—sometimes called “Harper’s Ferry Pistols” in a reference to the first pistol issued to Soldiers featuring standardized, interchangeable parts enabling mass production—are a symbol of the force available to the unit if necessary for the completion of a mission or assignment.

MAGIS QUAM MILES, the Battalion motto, is Latin for “More Than A Soldier.”

The 226th Military Police Battalion is assigned to the 93rd Troop Command, a major command in the New Mexico Army National Guard. It is headquartered at Farmington, New Mexico.
