U.S. ARMY 103RD EXPEDITIONARY SUSTAINMENT COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Often called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia for the 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command was first approved when the unit was designated the 103rd Support Command (Corps) on 10 August 1982; it was redesignated to reflect the unit’s title of 103rd Sustainment Command on 16 September 2006 and once again to reflect its designation as an Expeditionary-level command.

Scarlet and buff (gold) are the colors long associate with Support units and organizations. Two curved bars form a millrind, a heraldic symbol that represents strength and support, and the arrow between the two bars indicates combat preparedness. The two stars indicate the authority of command and leadership, but in conjunction with the fleur-de-lis between them they also represent the three World War II campaigns in France the Command’s predecessor unit took part in.

On the left, an image of a cactus recalls the predecessor unit’s nickname as the “Cactus Division,” while the key on the right is a reference to a predecessor’s service as a Support Brigade.  The white, blue, and red found in the lower portion of the insignia are taken from the Iowa state flag, reflecting the fact that the predecessor unit was headquartered in that state (Des Moines, to be exact). The motto of "We Succeed" serves to instill self-confidence and proclaims that only complete mission accomplishment is considered an acceptable outcome by the Command.
