Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia for the U.S. Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Activity was originally approved for the U.S. Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Group on 15 April 1983. In July 1983 an amendment to the insignia added symbolism before it was redesignated a second (and final) time for U.S. Army Text, Measurement and Diagnostic Equpiment Activity on 1 May 1991.
An eagle grasping a set of scales in its beak provides the perfect visual metaphor for the Activity and its functions: the eagle represents the military nature of the work that it does, while the balance denotes the tasks of measurement and calibration and the need for accuracy and precision.
A gridlined globe inside a six-pointed star suggest the worldwide scope of the service and its ability to provide multi-directional support. A gold laurel extending up both sides of the insignia symbolizes high achievement and excellence and represents the vital role the organization plays not only in the United States Army, but also in the operations of other Department of Defense organizations and thousands of industrial-based customers working with the Army and DoD.
