OUTSTANDING AIRMAN OF THE YEAR
The Outstanding Airman of the Year award is a decoration of the United States Air Force which was first created on February 21, 1968 by order of Secretary of the Air Force Harold Brown.
The first presentation of the award was in June of 1970.
The Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon is the highest personal ribbon decoration of the United States Air Force
It is awarded to any enlisted member of the U.S. Air Force who is nominated and selected for the United States Air Force Airman of the Year Award, which is sponsored by the Air Force Association.
The Airman of the Year Award is similar to the U.S. Army "Soldier of the Month Award" and the United States Navy "Bluejacket of the Quarter" and "Sailor of the Year" awards although those services do not issued an award ribbon to those so selected.
