U.S. NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS TIE TACK / TIE CLASP

The black four-in-hand necktie was a basic component of the Navy’s Winter Blue Uniform (the “Johnny Cash”) worn by male enlisted personnel (E-6 and below), and regulations authorized the wear of a silver tie tack or tie clasp with it. But the Winter Blue was eliminated in 2004 as part of sweeping uniform changes recommended by Task Force Uniform and was replaced by the Year-Round Service Uniform, which had no necktie. As a result, only two types of neckwear (bow tie and neckerchief) are now authorized for enlisted personnel below the rate of Chief Petty Officer, neither of which is worn with a tie tack or tie clasp.

We the silver tie tacks and tie claps featuring the E-5 Petty Officer Second Class insignia—a perched eagle above two chevrons—to meet the needs of veterans seeking to ensure their uniforms are in compliance with regulations that were in place during their time of service. Our PO2 tie tacks and tie clasps conform to Navy regulations that were in effect prior to 2004 and are manufactured to meet or exceed Mil-Spec standards.

Tie tacks and tie clasps are worn in a horizontal position one inch below the center of the tie.
