U.S. NAVY PETTY OFFICER SECOND CLASS (E5) COLLAR DEVICE

Until the introduction of the Service Uniform in 2008, Navy enlisted personnel in the rates E2 – E6 wore miniature collar grade insignia only on the collar tips of the blue windbreaker and the blue all-weather coat. The Service Uniform replaced the Winer Blue uniform (nicknamed the “Johnny Cash” because of its almost black color) and the Summer White, a fact that is reflected in the repeated references to the Service Uniform as a “year-round” uniform.

The collar grade insignia for Petty Officers Second Class consists of an eagle on perch above the rate’s insignia of two chevrons. Worn on both collar points of the khaki shirt and overblouse, the insignia is tilted approximately 45 degrees inboard, with the eagle facing inward, at a point one-inch distant from the collar’s front and lower (back) edges. When tilted properly, an imaginary line running through the collar point and equally bisecting the collar will match the vertical axis of the insignia.

No rating specialty marks (crossed quill pins, ship’s wheel, etc.) are worn with the Petty Officer Second Class collar grade insignia.
