U.S. NAVY ENGINEERING AIDE (EA) BALL CAP DEVICE

For Sailors serving in the Engineering Aide (EAT) rating, their work begins the very moment the U.S. Navy decides a construction project is to be undertaken. EA Sailors perform the surveys used to decide the location not only of new buildings and bases, but also all the ancillary infrastructure involved in the sustainability of the installations: water and sewer systems, airfields, roads, drainage, pipelines, and more. Once the locations have been determined, EAs draw up the maps, blueprints, and sketches for all construction work and use them to calculate the amount of raw materials necessary to carry out the job.

Performing these types of calculations requires a good grasp of advanced mathematics. As a result, Sailors wishing to become Engineering Aides must have completed either a high school or college course in trigonometry with a grade of at least a “C.”

While speed is often an important factor in many construction projects, the safety and stability of planned structures is never overlooked. Engineering Aides carry out tests of the soil where buildings are slated to be built to ensure that their structural integrity is not threatened by erosion or subsidence, and asphalt and concrete mixes are inspected to guarantee their strength and durability. This type of quality control work is ongoing and extends to all phases of a building project, and includes the supervision of safety operations, environmental protection procedures, and subsequent maintenance programs.
