U.S. ARMY MEDICAL DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY, FORT SILL UNIT CREST (DUI)

The Distinctive Unit Insignia (also called a unit crest or DUI) for the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC), Fort Sill was originally approved on 8 September 1971 for U.S. Reynolds Army Hospital. It was redesignated for MEDDAC, Fort Sill on 21 September 1973 and its description amended and symbolism corrected on 10 February 2014.

In the center of the circular insignia, a maroon cross outlined in white (silver) incorporates the branch colors of the Army Medical Corps; they are also used by the Army Medical Department. The cross has long be a symbol for assistance and aid and thus alludes to the basic mission of the MEDDAC at Fort Sill. A pair of starts superimposed on the cross are references to Major General Charles Ransom Reynolds (Surgeon General from June 1935 to June 1939) and the Hospital which bore his name. Rays emanating from behind the cross symbolize his leadership and contributions to Medicine and his service to his country.

Red and yellow used in the insignia are a general reference Artillery and in particular the Artillery School at Fort Sill; they are also used on the Oklahoma state flag along with the six red crosses. In numerology, the number six is a symbol of life and thus alludes to the motto of “Life And Health.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
