USMC CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER 3 COAT RANK DEVICE

The Chief Warrant Officer 3 metal grade insignia uses the same basic design as the Warrant Officer insignia—two 3/8”-wide, scarlet enamel blocks placed 1/4” apart on a bar measuring 1-1/8” long and 3/8” wide—but uses a silver-colored bar rather than gold. It’s referred to as shoulder grade insignia because it’s worn on the shoulder straps (epaulets) of coats and jackets of all uniforms except the Evening Dress, viz., the Blue Dress Coat, Service Coat, All-Weather Jacket, and Tanker Jacket.

To properly position the CWO 3 coat rank devices, orient the bar so that its long axis faces fore after, forming a 90-degree angle with the shoulder strap’s center line running from the middle of the strap’s button to the shoulder seam. Then place the insignia so that the outermost edge is 3/4” from the armhole seam of the coat.
