USMC EMBROIDERED MAJOR RANK INSIGNIA FOR EVENING DRESS

Our Marine Corps Major insignia of grade authorized for wear on male and female Evening Dress “A” and “B”  uniforms is embroidered in synthetic gold bullion on a square swatch of dark blue fabric (mixed wear of synthetic and all-gold uniform components is permitted) that’s sewn onto the shoulder straps of the Evening Dress jacket.

To attach the embroidered Major rank insignia properly, orient the fabric swatch so that the stem of the oak leaf is pointing toward the armhole seam. Center the oak leaf between the front and rear edges of the shoulder and position it on the shoulder strap so that the bottom of the stem is 3/4-inch from the armhole seam.

Embroidered rank insignia is worn by Officers only on the Evening Dress uniform. The only enlisted personnel authorized an Evening Dress uniform are Staff Noncommissioned Officers, but they wear large 1890’s gold-on-scarlet chevrons sewn onto the outer half of both sleeves of the SNCO Evening Jacket.
