INDIANA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD ELEMENT, JOINT FORCE HQ PATCH (SSI)

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch) worn by Indiana Army National Guard (ARNG) assigned to state’s Joint Force Headquarters (HQ) was originally approved HQ and HQ Detachment on 17 May 1949. In May 1984, its description was revised and it was redesignated for HQ, State Area Command, Indiana ARNG. On 1 October 2003, the insignia was amended to update the description and add a symbolism while it was concurrently redesignated for the Indiana ARNG Element, Joint Force HQ.

As with many state ARNG insignias, the Indiana ARNG Element insignia takes its design elements from the state flag. A torch with streaming rays of light signifies both liberty and enlightenment, with the rays suggesting the far-reaching influence of these principles A single large star above the torch stands for the state of Indiana.
