The Humanitarian Service Medal is a military decoration of the United States armed forces which was created in 1977 by order of President Gerald Ford.
The Humanitarian Service Medal is awarded to the members of the Armed Forces for their meritorious participation in any significant military act of a humanitarian nature approved by the Department of Defense.Service members must be on active duty at the time for direct participation.
The medal is awarded to the Service members who have directly participated in the humanitarian act within the designated geographical area of operation and within the specified time limits.The Humanitarian Service Medal is retroactive to April 1, 1975. Multiple awards of the medal are authorized with service stars denoting additional decorations.
