U.S. ARMY 1/8 INCH GOLD SOUTACHE BRAID

A French word inspired by the Hungarian sujtás for a flat braid used as trimming, soutache is used almost exclusively on the uniforms of enlisted Army personnel. A 1/8-inch braid made of gold nylon or rayon is used on the sleeves of the male and female versions of the enlisted Army Service Uniform coat and the enlisted Blue Mess Dress jacket. Regulations specify that the soutache braid is to be placed parallel to and three inches above the bottom of each sleeve. The 1/8-inch gold soutache braid is also employed on the sleeves of the male and female enlisted White Mess Dress jacket (also placed three inches above the bottom of the sleeves).

The only other instances of any type of soutache being used on Army uniforms are the ¼-inch white soutache braids found on the sleeves of the White Mess Dress jackets worn by male and female Warrant Officers and Commissioned Officers below the grade of O-7 (Brigadier General).

Our 1/8-inch gold soutache braids are made of rayon and come in 30-inch strips.
