CONNECTICUT ARMY NATIONAL GUARD ELEMENT, JOINT FORCE HQ UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the Connecticut Army National Guard Element, Joint Force Headquarters is largely adapted from the shield portion of the Coat of Arms of Connecticut, which was approved by the State General Assembly of 1897. For the insignia, the shield has been placed inside a blue hexagon. It consists of silver rococo shield containing three green grape vines bearing purple grapes, with the vine intertwined with a vertical green shoot issuing from a green mound for support. The shield used here is lacks some of the flourishes seen on the coat of arms, but otherwise is the same.

Since it was approved for wear by the noncolor and nonstandard bearing units of the state Staff and Staff Detachment of the Connecticut National Guard on 4 April 1930, the insignia has been redesignated several times to reflect the changing organizational structure of the National Guard. It was first redesignated (with an amended description of the designs) for the HQ and HQ Detachment and noncolor bearing units of the Connecticut Army National Guard on 31 March 1970, followed in December 1983 by a redesignation for the HQ, State Area Command, Connecticut Army National Guard. Its current designation was made with an effective date of 1 October 2003 and included an updated description.

The Connecticut National Guard Joint Force Headquarters is located at the Governor William A. O'Neill Armory in Hartford, Connecticut.
