COAST GUARD AUXILIARY TIE TACK / TIE CLASP

The Coast Guard’s Auxiliary Manual, COMDTINST M16790.1G, does authorize the wear of tie tacks and tie clasps with standard and clip-on Coast Guard blue four-in-hand neckties, but is almost silent on placement or permissible ornamentation except to say that the wear of the tie tac awarded to graduates of Search and Rescue School is permitted. Our Coast Guard Auxiliary tie tack and tie clasp features the seal of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, with its two anchors crossed to create a 45-degree, a shield with seven white and six red stripes, a blue field, and an inscription of the service’s name.

Auxiliary uniforms calling for the wear of he Coast Guard blue tie include the Service Dress Blue, Winter Dress, Blue and Undress Blue—Winter. While there’s no explicit prescription regarding visibility of tacks and clasps while wearing the Service Dess Blue (SDB) coat, it can be assumed that the tack/clasp should be attached following Coast Guard instructions, i.e., aligned to the center of the shirt pocket and therefore covered by the SDB when it is worn.

Coast Guard Auxiliary regulations prohibit the wear of neckties and tie tacks/clasps when they might pose a safety hazard.
