This half-inch-wide silver chin strap is designed for use on the Coast Guard Auxiliary Combination Cap worn by elected and appointed officers, from Flotilla Staff Officers (FSO) up to National Commodore. In contrast, Auxiliary Members who have yet to be elected or appointed to an office use a black chin strap on their Combination Caps. It is purely a ceremonial strap and is never worn in the down position.
