Also referred to as “neck tabs,” “tab ties,” and even “neckties,” Dress necktabs are worn with formal attire such as Mess Dress and Evening Mess uniforms and are the female uniform equivalent of the bow tie in a male servicemember’s uniform.
The crescent shape of Dress necktabs makes it easy to distinguish between them and Service necktabs, whose ends overlap to form an inverted “V” shape at the bottom. Wear the Dress necktab under the collar of the shirt or blouse with the front of the necktab slightly above the top of the collar closure. Please refer to your particular service’s uniform instructions for further guidance the wear of necktabs, including which the types of uniforms call for Dress necktabs as opposed to Service necktabs.
