U.S. ARMY ARMY LAPEL BUTTON

Soldiers who are being transferred to another component of the Armed Forces to complete an obligation of military service or who have received an Honorable Discharge Certificate are eligible to receive the Army Lapel Button. Other requirements include a non-adverse separation and a minimum period of nine months of continuous service (24 hours or more away from service is considered a break) on or after 1 April 1984 (1 July 1986 for service in a National Guard unit or Army Reserve troop program unit). No Soldier may receive more than one Army Lapel Button regardless of how many times he separates from the service and meets the other requirements.

For obvious reasons, the Army Lapel Button is sometimes casually referred to as the “Minuteman button” or “Minuteman button.” The red background behind the image of a Revolutionary War volunteer is the color of courage in heraldry, and the 16 gold-colored rays suggest the rising sun and illumination in place of darkness.

The Army Lapel Button is worn on the left lapel by males and females, the latter having the option to wear it in a similar location if the garment lacks lapels.
