U.S. ARMY DENTAL ACTIVITY, FORT BRAGG UNIT CREST (DUI)

The motto of the U.S. Army Dental Activity, Fort Bragg, “Dedication Excellence,” is emblazoned in maroon script on a white (silver) background of the organization’s Distinctive Unit Insignia; maroon and white the two colors associated the Army Medical Corps. In the center are a trio of pine trees, an allusion to the unit’s home area at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, dubbed the “Tar Heel State” for the sticky tar produced by the state’s abundant forests of pine trees (the pine tree is also the North Carolina state tree). Their green hue evokes images life, health, and rejuvenation, all references to the organization’s mission. A cross in the center is a symbol of care and aid, reinforcing the Dental Activity’s mission and the organization’s inclusion in the Army’s overall health-care mission.

Also called a “unit crest,” the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of U.S. Army Dental Activity, Fort Bragg was originally approved on 15 May 1980. After the unit was discontinued, the insignia was cancelled with effective date of 30 September 2016.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
