The Commendation Medal is an award of United States Military which is presented for acts of heroism or meritorious service.The Valor device ("V" device) is provided as an attachment to the Commendation medal for valorous actions in direct contact with an enemy force.The Commendation Medal was originally a ribbon and Army Commendation Ribbon was established for the Army in the year 1945.Commendation ribbons were renamed the "Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant".
In the year 1960 the Commendation ribbons were authorized as full medals and they are referred as Commendation Medals.Army issues oak leaf clusters as additional awards of Commendation Medal.The U.S. Army Commendation Medal is awarded for junior officers and enlisted personnel as an end-of-tour award.
