U.S. ARMY RESERVE LEGAL COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

The U.S. Army Reserve Legal Command Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), commonly called a unit crest, was approved concurrently with the Command’s activation on 16 September 2009. Its centerpiece is the familiar depiction of the blindfolded Lady Justice holding the scales of justice in her left hand and a fasces, the traditional symbol of law and legal authority, in her right (non-Military depictions of Lady Justice typically have her holding a sword instead of a fasces).

The image and its location in the insignia denotes that the central, overarching purpose of the organization is the pursuit of justice, with the blindfold signifying that the race, creed, color, gender, or class of the persons seeking justice do not alter the methods or objective of that pursuit. Scales represent the weighing of evidence and the balancing of interests. VICTORIA PER JUSTITIAM, the organization’s motto, is Latin for “Victory With Justice.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Part of United States Army Reserve Command, the United States Army Reserve Legal Command is headquartered at the Major General Benjamin L. Hunton Memorial United States Army Reserve Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
It is a one-star command that oversees 1,700 Soldiers serving in twenty-eight Legal Operations Detachments (LODs). Each LOD is commanded by a Colonel, but in terms of manpower a Detachment is about the same as a Company-sized unit or organization. The Command has trained and ready legal forces capable of providing multi-functional legal support to commanders, Soldiers, and family members in support of military operations.
