U.S. ARMY ACQUISITION EXECUTIVE SUPPORT CENTER UNIT CREST (DUI)

Colloquially referred to as a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the United States Army Acquisition Support Center was originally approved on 3 December 1998 when the organization was called the U.S. Army Acquisition Executive Support Agency. The following October, it was amended to be worn in pairs, with the eagle head facing the wearer’s neck. It was subsequently redesignated for the U.S. Army Acquisition Support Center with a retroactive approval date of 1 October 2002.

The black background, white eagle, and yellow tripartite scroll represent the colors of the emblem of the U.S.  Army Acquisition Corps. An eagle, longtime National symbol, represents vigilance, watchfulness, and military preparedness. A pair of laurel leaves is a symbol of high honor and outstanding achievement. "Innovation, Excellence, Dedication," the Center's motto, is inscribed in red letters on a gold, tripartite scroll.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

A Direct Reporting Unit of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology, the U.S. Army Acquisition Support Center (USAASC) provides oversight of the Army Acquisition Corps (AAC) and Army Acquisition Workforce (AAW), now comprising over 40,000 personnel.

The AAC was expanded in 2006 to include both Commissioned and Noncommissioned Officers, and is structured similarly to the Logistics Corps: Its Officers and NCOs spend their first eight years of service in another branch of the Army related to Acquisitions, at which time they may join the AAC to serve as Assistant Program Managers, Program Managers, or Program Executive Officers.

The AAC makes up about 12 percent of the AAW, which also includes personnel from the Army Corps of Engineers and five different Army Commands (Materiel, Futures, Test and Evaluation, Medical, and Space and Missile).
