The 95th Adjutant General Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also known as a unit crest or a DUI, was approved on 25 August 1987. Its dark blue background and scarlet highlights are the colors of the Adjutant General’s Corps; scarlet is also associated with Field Artillery. In the shield is a quill pen, embodying the administrative mission of the Adjutant General’s Corps, and an 1883 Field Artillery NCO short saber, pointing to the unit’s affiliation with Field Artillery and emphasizing the “warrior spirit” of Battalion personnel. The unit motto of “Soldiering Starts Here” is a simple statement of the Battalion’s mission.Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
