U.S. ARMY 92ND FIELD ARTILLERY REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 92nd Field Artillery Battalion was approved on 20 June 1942 while the unit was still designated the 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. Since then, it has been redesignated to reflect the organization’s changing status. On 12 November 1958 it was redesignated for the 92nd Artillery Regiment, then again on 1 September 1971 for the 92nd Field Artillery Regiment.

Scarlet and red of the insignia denote the unit’s status in the Artillery branch. The mailed fist, punching a section out of the yellow pale, symbolizes the breakthrough power Artillery can provide in battle. “Brave Cannons,” the unit motto, is more than fitting for an organization that has fought in thirty-one campaigns since it hit the beaches of Sicily in 1943; it was also honored with a Presidential Unit Citation and a Belgian Fourragere 1940 for earning two citations in the Order of the Day of the Belgian Army.

Full guidance on wear of the Distinctive Unit Insignia is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 92nd Field Artillery Regiment was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 92nd Field Artillery. On 1 January 1942, it was redesignated as the 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion and assigned to the 2nd Armored Division. The Battalion earned six campaign streamers in World War II, one with an Arrowhead denoting participation in an assault landing (Sicily).

During the Korean War, the Battalion fought in all ten named campaigns, with its exceptional service recognized with a Presidential Unit Citation and a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. Inactivated in July 1955, the Battalion was reorganized as a Regiment and redesignated the 92nd Artillery, a parent regiment in the Combat Arms Regimental System (CARS). Under this new designation, the Regiment’s units were deployed to Vietnam and fought in a dozen campaigns, earning a Valorous Unit Award for its courage and resilience during the siege of Ben Het Camp in May-June 1969.

Withdrawn from CARS, the Regiment was reorganized and redesignated as the 92nd Field Artillery Regiment on 1 July 1986 and was subsequently deployed to support Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm. During what would turn out to be their last combat action, the Regiment’s units fought in all three campaigns of the First Gulf War and earned the Regiment a Navy Unit Commendation. As of 2023, all of the Regiment’s Battalions and Batteries are inactivated.
