U.S. ARMY 876TH ENGINEER BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 876th Engineer Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, features the scarlet and white branch colors of the Corps of Engineers on the shield portion, with a black castle tower containing four merlon at the top of a heraldic pile; the four merlons represent the organization’s four campaigns in France and Europe while designated as an Engineer Aviation Battalion, with the pile suggesting an airfield runway. Counterchanged in scarlet and white, the pile and fess form a keystone, an allusion to the Battalion’s home state of Pennsylvania (the “Keystone State”). "Build For Tomorrow" is the Battalion motto.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
