U.S. ARMY 402ND MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 402nd Military Police Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, more commonly referred to as a unit crest or a DUI, was originally approved for the 867th Quartermaster Battalion on 19 March 2002 and was given its current designation Buff and light blue, branch colors of the Quartermaster Corps, are used as the background for the four quadrants of the shield portion of the insignia. Gold and black, the other two colors found in the shield, stand for excellence and petroleum, the major logistics support mission of the Battalion.

Four black discs with gold borders, placed on the four major geographic directions of a compass (N, S, E, W), denote units of supply and symbolize distribution to Soldiers wherever they may located. An eagle on a shield centered on the insignia represents both our country and the Quartermaster Corps (it is taken from the Corps’ branch insignia). Behind the eagle is a crossed sword and key, also taken from the Quartermaster branch insignia, which represent military readiness and professional logistics control and support. “Provide To Protect” is the Battalion motto.

Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

It was ordered into active Federal service on 19 June 2006 and deployed to Iraq in August 2006 to provide logistics service and support for Multi- National Force-Iraq. The Battalion was released from active Federal service and reverted to state control on 15 December 2007.

Six weeks later, on 15 October 2008, the Battalion’s service in Iraq from August 2006 to August 2007 was recognized with a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

As of Autumn 2023, the 402nd Military Police Battalion is under the command of the Headquarters Support Company, 67th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Nebraska Army National Guard.
