U.S. ARMY 841ST ENGINEER BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 841st Engineer Battalion Unit Crest, officially known as a Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), was approved on 8 April 1952 for the 841st Engineer Aviation Battalion. It was redesignated for the 841st Engineer Battalion following the unit's change in designation. “Build Maintain Defend,” the unit motto, is a succinct expression of the overall mission of an Engineer unit.

A white runway on a scarlet background suggests the organization's function while it was still an Engineer Aviation unit, while white and scarlet are the branch colors of the Corps of Engineers. The white and blue wavy lines represetn the Pacific Ocean, the area in which the unit earned three campaign credits during World War II.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
