U.S. ARMY 82ND BRIGADE SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 82nd Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division was originally approved on 17 February 1969 while the unit was designated as the 82nd Support Battalion. In the upper portion, nebuly along the border serve as a symbol for clouds and refer to the unlimited range of the sky. A parachute in the center is an emblem of the Airborne Support mission of the Battalion, and the red background seen through the chute’s suspension lines denote danger and requisite courage. The Latin phrase SUBSIDIUM SINE QUA NON is the unit motto; it translate into English as  “Support All The Way.”

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 82nd Brigade Support Battalion was originally constituted as the 82nd Support Battalion in the Regular Amy on 11 April 1968 and assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. Activated on 25 May 1968 in Vietnam, the Battalion took part in seven campaigns and was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation and a Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

The Battalion was inactivated for nearly twenty-five years when it was reactivated as a provisional Forward Support Battalion on 16 August 1993; the designation became permanent a year later. The Battalion underwent its last redesignation January 2006 as part of the Army’s move to a modular, Brigade-centric force. It was named a Brigade Support Battalion, keeping its numerical designation but assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Before the redesignation, the Battalion had earned a Valorous Unit Award; since the redesignation, it has received three Meritorious Unit Commendations for service between 2006 and 2009.

As of Summer 2023, the 82nd Brigade Support Battalion remains a part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. It is stationed at Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg) in North Carolina.
