The 82nd Finance Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also known as a unit crest or a DUI, was approved on 5 March 1993. Silver gray and golden yellow are used to reflect the unit’s status as a Finance Corps unit. Additionally, gold signifies excellence, while red, white, and blue—our National colors—reinforce the motto of “All American Pay Masters,” an allusion to the 82nd Airborne “All American” Division with which the unit is closely aligned. Wings are emblematic of the Airborne mission, and an upright, unsheathed sword symbolizes military preparedness. A lozenge superimposed on the sword is taken from the Financial Corps branch insignia. The demi-sun in the lozenge refers to the tropical climate of Panama, location of the unit’s baptism by fire.
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."

The 82nd Financial Management Support Unit was originally formed as the 82nd Finance Company and assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. It was reorganized and redesignated as the 82nd Finance Support Unit on 16 April 1987. Following action in Panama during Operation Just Cause and a deployment to Kuwait in support of all three campaigns in the First Gulf War which led to the award of a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the unit was redesignated as the 82nd Finance Battalion.
It retained this designation until October 2006 when it was redesignated as the 82nd Finance Company; Detachments of the 82nd Finance Company were awarded a total of four Meritorious Unit Commendations between 2009 and February 2012. In 2011, the unit experienced its final redesignation when it became the 82nd Financial Management Support Unit.
