U.S. ARMY 703RD SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 703rd Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a “unit crest” or DUI, was originally approved for the 703rd Ordnance Battalion on 21 October 1954, a heritage reflected in the heavy use of the Ordnance branch colors of crimson and yellow in the insignia’s design. It was redesignated for the 703rd Maintenance Battalion on 1 April 1964, then again on 14 September 1987 to its current designation for the 703rd Support Battalion, now the 703rd Brigade Support Battalion.

A diagonally oriented mace is taken from the coat of arms of Colmar to represent the Battalion’s award for outstanding service in that region during World War II. A blue oriental temple reflects the organization’s Korean War service (it is the same color as the Korean Service Ribbon). “Maintain,” the unit motto, was the inspiration for the Battalion’s unofficial nickname “Maintainers.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
