A subordinate unit of the 35th Signal Brigade (Theater Tactical), the 67th Expeditionary Signal Battalion was originally constituted in Army of the United States as the 67th Signal Battalion on 11 May 1942, but it was not activated until 1 May 1943. During World War II, it was one of just a few units that served in both the European-African-Middle Eastern and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters, taking part in two campaigns (Rhineland and Central Europe) before deploying to Luzon in the Philippines, earning it an Asiatic-Pacific Theater streamer (but without an inscription for a specific campaign or battle).
The Battalion would not deploy to a combat zone again until the First Gulf War in 1990-1991, where it would go on to earn a Meritorious Unit Commendation. In the War on Terrorism, the Battalion has been deployed four times and has been awarded two more Meritorious Unit Commendations, one for its 2004 tour and another for it service during 2009-1010. As of Summer 2023, the 67th Expeditionary Signal Battalion remains assigned to the 35th Signal Brigade and is based at Fort Eisenhower (formerly known as Fort Gordon) in Georgia.

Approved 30 October 1967, the 67th Signal Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia—often called “unit crest” or just DUI for short—features the unit’s official motto reinforcing its commitment to excellence in service, “Rapid Flexible Reliable.” (The Battalion has also adopted the unofficial motto “Voice Of Combat” and unofficial nickname “Lightning Force.”) The shield above the scroll containing the motto has two fleurs-de-lis to symbolize the battle honors earned in Europe in World War II, and the fire arrow in the center of the shield has the appearance of a flare and thus symbolizes the Signal mission of the Battalion.
