U.S. ARMY 634TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Worn today by personnel in the 634th Brigade Support Battalion, 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, the 634th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (also known as a DUI or unit crest) features a crossed sword and key in the center of a badge-style shield. The imagery is inspired the branch insignia of the Quartermaster Corps, but here the sword has a different guard and hilt, and the key is double-warded to emphasize security and control.

Behind the sword and key is an Ionic column, another heraldic image used to convey the idea of strong support. Laurel wreaths at the base of the column symbolize high achievement, and the gold color of the shield is for excellence. “Service Supports Victory” is the unit motto.

In December 2009, the 634th Support Battalion’s Company A was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom between 28 October 2006 and 28 September 2007 while assigned as a subordinate unit to the 16th Military Police Brigade. During the eleven-month period, the Battalion assisted in the synchronization of execution of detention operations throughout the entire Iraqi Theater, which required the control and accountability of more than 20,000 detainees.

As of Summer 2023, the 634th Brigade Support Battalion is assigned to the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team and is headquartered at Sullivan, Illinois. It consists of a HQ and HQ Company and eight Companies (A through H).

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
