U.S. ARMY 633RD SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 633rd Support Group is in inactive union that was a unit in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. There is no readily available public information available on the unit or its history, and it’s unclear whether it was inactivated, deactivated, redesignated, or consolidated with or converted to another unit. There is some evidence to indicate the organization was originally designated as the 633rd Quartermaster Battalion, but it is far from conclusive or definitive.

According to U.S. Army Heraldic Crests: A Complete Illustrated History of Authorized Distinctive Unit Insignia by military insignia maven Barry Jason Stein, the 633rd Support Group Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was approved on 17 August 1970. Its five arrows are a reference to all the military equipment the unit stocked and supplied, and the five radial arrowheads form a star to denote command responsibility. The colors of buff (gold) and scarlet are associated with Support units.

The U.S. Army Center of Military History does not have a unit motto associated with this unit.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
