U.S. ARMY 632ND ARMOR REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 632nd Armor Regiment, an inactivated or disbanded unit of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, was originally approved for the 132nd Heavy Tank Battalion on 8 September 1952, but the insignia was amended on 18 November 1952 with the addition of the crest of the Wisconsin National guard. It was redesignated for the 132nd Tank Battalion on 28 September 1956 and was redesignated for the 32nd Armor Regiment on 9 December 1963.

Yellow is the color for Armor units, and here it is used for the shield containing a morning star, a weapon wielded by heavily armored knights in the Middle Ages that today symbolizes the crushing assault power of armored units. A trio of green bendlets serve to commemorate the three World War II battle honors in the unit’s lineage: New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon, with an Arrowhead device denoting participation in an assault landing during the Leyte battle. Its military decoration from World War II is a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. The badger, symbol for the state of Wisconsin, is found here and on the crest of the Wisconsin Army National Guard as well as on the State seal and flag. AGE AUT PERFICE is the unit motto, a Latin phrase meaning “Act Or Achieve.”

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Formed in 1963 by the expansion of the 105th Armor to create the both the 105th Cavalry and 632nd Armor Regiment, the latter comprising the 1st and 2nd Battalions that were elements of the 32nd Infantry Division. It was reorganized on 30 December 1967 to consist of the 1st Battalion, a non-divisional unit, then again on 1 January 1972 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 32nd Infantry Division.

It was withdrawn from the Combat Arms Regiment System on 1 June 1989 and reorganized under the U.S. Army Regimental System with Headquarters at Wausau, Wisconsin. In 2001, the Regiment’s sole Battalion, the 1st, was inactivated and its components dispersed among several other organizations, including the 32nd Infantry Brigade, 105th Cavalry, 127th Infantry, and the 120th Field Artillery.
