U.S. ARMY 615TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 615th Aviation Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved on 16 September 1996. Buff (gold) and scarlet are feature prominently in the insignia to reflect the Battalion’s role as a Support organization. A chevron topped with nebuly (protrusions) divides the shield to symbolize support and allude to an association with Aviation units. A black anvil and red bayonet in the center emphasize the motto, “Forge The Edge,” with the bayonet additionally denoting martial readiness and the support the Battalion provides to individual Soldiers in the field. The color black, also used for the scroll containing the unit motto, is also a sign of strength and solidity.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
