Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

The 49th Financial Management Support Unit Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved for wear in 1995. “Texas Tradition,” the unit motto, reflects the unit’s affiliation as a Texas Army National Guard Unit, as does the black “Lone Star” in the center of the insignia. A gold lozenge in the upper middle of the shield portion of the insignia is taken from the branch insignia of the Army’s Finance Corps. Gold and silver, branch colors of the Finance Corps are used throughout the insignia; black is used to indicate solidarity and strength. The wreath at the bottom denotes excellence and high achievement.
Headquartered at San Marcos, Texas, the 49th Financial Management Support unit is comprised of its Headquarters company and the 149th and 249th Finance Detachments of the Texas Army National Guard. In 2013, the 149th Finance Detachment made its second deployment to Kuwait in a period of five years, relieving its sister unit the 249th Finance Detachment.
