U.S. ARMY 441ST ORDNANCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

A unit in the Alabama Army National Guard, the 441st Ordnance Battalion—now serving in the as the 441st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion—is assigned to the 111th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group and is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama.

The 441st Ordnance Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a unit crest or DUI, features three scarlet “pheons,” or arrow-shaped devices, along the perimeter of the upper half of the insignia to represent the modern guided-missile systems which the Battalion supported at the time the insignia was approved. Two crossed artillery shells are a reference to the Battalion’s support for Field Artillery, and the stacked cannonballs refer to the unit’s bravery, power, and readiness. “Proud Professionals” is the Battalion motto.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
