U.S. ARMY 43RD ADJUTANT GENERAL BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Based at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, the 43rd Adjutant General Battalion is tasked with the reception, staging, and in-processing operations for Soldiers entering Initial Entry Training (IET) as well as prior-service Soldiers to support Basic Combat Training and One-Unit Station Training. It also exercises command oversights of the 399th Army Band and the HHC, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE) and provides administrative support to the Combat Training Committee in support of IET brigades and various MSCoE missions.

The 43rd Adjutant General Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), also referred to as a unit crest, was approved on 14 May 1987. It features a red bend dexter (red diagonal band running from viewer’s top left to lower right) containing a sword and a laurel wreath. The bend is an allusion to strength and reinforcement. A sword in heraldry symbolizes military force; here it is enwrapped by a branch of laurel, an emblem of victory or great achievement. In combination, the sword and laurel wreath portray the unit's participation in two World War II campaigns in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and its contribution to global peace and freedom, a concept reinforced by the unit motto "Soldiers For Freedom."

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
