The 434th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), also called a unit crest, was originally approved for the 747th Ordnance Battalion, Minnesota National Guard, on 24 February 1955. It was redesignated for the 747th Maintenance Battalion, Minnesota NG, on 11 October 1963, then again for the 434th Maintenance Battalion (with revised description and symbolism) on 18 April 1991. It was given its current designation on 1 March 1995.
Crimson and yellow are the colors of Ordnance units and are included here to reflect the organization’s heritage as a one-time Ordnance Battalion. The diagonal band, called a bend, is buff and blue for the Quarters Corps, the branch under which the unit inherits its battle honors and decorations. A cross in the upper left is taken from the arms of Rome, Italy to commemorate the organization’s World War II service in that country. PEXAGIMUS, the unit motto, is Latin for “We Accomplish.”

Two of the Battalion’s Companies, B and C, have been honored with Meritorious Unit Commendations for their service in supporting the War on Terrorism. Company B, 434th Support Battalion was recognized with the award for its support of Task Force Liberty from January 2005 to November 2005, while the Battalion’s C Company’s counterinsurgency operations, base defense measures, and numerous other contributions over the course of twenty-eight major named operations between March 2 2006 and July 2007 led to its selection for an MUC in May 2009.
Very few records are available on the history of the 434th Support Battalion, later designated as the 434th Main Support Battalion, but they appear to indicate the unit was inactivated in 2007.
