U.S. ARMY 415TH REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however

The 415th Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 415th Infantry Regiment on 2 March 1927 and was redesignated for the 415th Regiment on 16 August 1960. Its blue shield commemorates the unit’s service as an Infantry unit in World War II, while the pile (silver portion of insignia in center of shield) recalls steam arising from “Old Faithful,” the celebrated geyser in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, the state to which the 415th Infantry was allocated in 1922.

Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Constituted in the Organized Reserves 24 June 1921 as the 415th Infantry and assigned to the 104th Division (later redesignated as the 104th Infantry Division), the 415th was ordered into active military service on 15 September 1942. Before its inactivation in December 1945, it would take part in the Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. The Regiment’s 1st Battalion was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for action as the Roer River Bridgehead, while the 2nd and 3rd Battalions were also tapped for the award for fighting around Lucherberg, Germany.

After its subsequent reactivation in June 1947, the unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 415th Regiment, an element of the 104th Division (Training), on 10 June 1959, with its Headquarters in Seattle. It underwent several reorganizations between that time and 1996 that altered the number of Battalions under Regimental command. As of Autumn 2023, the Regiment’s three Battalions (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) provide Initial Entry Training to new recruits as elements of the 2nd Brigade, 95th Training Division.
