U.S. ARMY 404TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The 404th Aviation Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 404th Support Battalion on 18 June 1996. Its buff and scarlet colors are those used by Support organizations, with red symbolizing action and valor and the black denoting solidarity and support. A red ring and a pair of interlocking chevrons epitomize cooperation and teamwork, and they also form the illusion of a target siting and a helopad, reinforcing the Aviation support mission the unit carries out. “Iron Eagle Providers” is a reference to the 4th Combat Aviation that the unit supports.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
